  3. There are very few records of the births of children in this family, and many of those are the questionable records from the Lancaster VRs that are said to come "from sundry sources supposed reliable".

    Source:Houghton, John Wesley. Houghton Genealogy, p. 303 lists his birth date as "12, 3, 1705", but that is clearly wrong since he married in 1722, and is called the fourth son in his father's probate, neither of which facts fit with such a date. (This source in general is particularly useless since it gives several specific dates which are not found in the records, and many of which have turned out to be flat-out wrong.)

    The NEHGR article above clearly expresses its lack of information (i.e., "perhaps"). To be the fourth son, as he was described in his father's probate, Thomas needs to be born between Eleazer (1691 by age at death) and Joshua (1695 by record "supposed reliable").
