Facts and Events
Name Thomas Hooper
Gender Male
Birth? 1700 Frome, Somerset, England
Marriage to Unknown
Death? 1741 Cartagena, Bolívar, Colombia

Thomas Hooper was probably born circa 1700 in Frome, Somerset, England. His birth would have occurred after the death of grandfather Georth Hooper the elder in 1698, and consequently he was not included in the elder's will as an heir. His name and his very existence as part of the Somerset family rests on the existence of several colonial Virginia records which are either linked to Joseph Hooper or to members of the Mayo family. Additionally, Thomas Hooper's perhaps brief presence in the colony is posited on the possibility that he was the Thomas Hooper who saw service as one of William Byrd's surveying crew which laid out the cities of Richmond and Petersburg. This expedition was described by Byrd in A Journey to the Land of Eden: In the Year 1733, part of Byrd's Westover Manuscripts. His inclusion here rests additionally on the possibility that Thomas Hooper may have been the "Capt. Hooper" who died on the Gooch Expedition to Cartagena in 1741.
