Beginning at a Pine Tree standing on the main Road and so running near a North Course to a Red Oak-a corner Tree standing at Jesse Hutchins's Line and down the said Line to a Dog Wood Tree at John Outland's Line and so along the said Outland's Line to a pine Tree at John Woddrofes Line to the main Road, and up the said Road to the first Station.

In the name of God, Amen, I, Thomas Gay, of the county of Franklin in the State of North Carolina, being very sick and weak but of sound mind, do make and ordain this my Last Will and Testament in the manner and form following: First and principally I commend my soul unto the hands of God Almighty who gave it, hoping for the merits of his blessed son Jesus Christ to be received into the mansions of Eternal Hope, and my body I desire to be buried in a Christian like manner at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned.


My will and desire is that my beloved wife Patience Gay to have use of that plantation whereon she now lives during her widowhood, with the use of my negro Simon; and all the household furniture and stock (except the stud horse King). At her remarriage or death, the land mentioned above to go to my son William., to him and his heirs forever.


I give and bequeath unto my son Joshua 100 acres, it being the land whereon he now lives, to him and his heirs forever.


I give and bequeath unto my daughter Temperance Walker, my negro girl Phebe, to her and her heirs forever.


I give and bequeath unto my son Allen Gay 140 acres of land, it being the land adjoining Wilson Denson on Cypress Creek, to him and his heirs forever. My will and desire is that my son Allen Gay have my negro boy Jemmy., to him and his heirs forever.

I give and bequeath unto my son John Gay, my negro boy Major, to him and his heirs forever.


My will and my desire is that my son Gilbert Gay shall have my negro wench Pleaz, to him and his heirs forever, but her further increase to be divided after son Gilbert comes of age among my son Thomas and daughters Joanna and Polly, to them and their heirs forever.

I give and bequeath unto my son Thomas Gay the stud horse King; all cash in hand and debts due the estate, which ought to be used for lands in the state of Georgia, for him my son Thomas, for him and his heirs forever. The remainder of the estate to be sold and proceeds divided equally among all my children then living and with negro Simon if he is alive.


My will and desire is that my friend Burwell Perry and my son Joshua Gay may become my Executors to this my Last Will and Testament. In witness whereof I hereunto set my hand and seal this twenty-first day of February Ano Domini, One Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Four. Thomas Gay
