Land purchases in Morgan County (Range 4 W, Township 6 S) 13 Jul 1818: John Eckford and William Eckford -- Section 25 Southwest Quarter 13 Jul 1818: Thomas Eckford and Joseph Morrow -- section 25 Southeast Quarter 13 Jul 1818: Thomas Eckford and John Coffee -- Section 26 Northwest Quarter 26 Jul 1831: William Eckford -- Section 35 East half of Northeast Quarter 20 Jul 1832: Thomas Eckford -- Section 36 Northwest Quarter of Northwest Quarter Note: These are all contiguous, about 7 miles west of Somerville. In Jan 1834 William Eckford and Murdock M. McKenzie became partners in a merchandise business in Somerville. In 1838 McKenzie sued Eckford. Thomas had moved to Tipton Co, TN and bought a town lot with Joseph R. Eckford in Jan 1837. The 1850 census record suggests that Thomas had a wife prior to Delitha. An 1845 Morgan Co, AL court refers to a disposition dated 25 Aug 1837 by Thomas Eckford about 40 years of age (in 1837).
