"Thomas and Mary Buchanan Christian were colonists in Stephen F. Austin's "Little Colony". Thomas received a league of land situated in Bastrop County where the city of Elgin is located. In 1833, Thomas along with several other men went on a surveying trip with Josiah Wilbarger. During this trip the small party of men was attacked by a group of Indians. Thomas was killed during this attack. The pictures included with this memorial are of the area and the memorial that was established at the area where the attack occurred."
