!BIOGRAPHY: Info from Cassedy genealogy document. 2/2010, also above US census. THOMAS CASSEDY, son of Thomas and ????? (?????) Cassedy (see note1 below), b. Parish of Inver, County of Donegal, Ireland 1775; d. Springville, Susquehana Co., PA 29 Dec. 1853 (age 78 yrs); bur. Lynn Cemetery, Lynn, PA Jan. 1854; (obituary appeared in Montrose Democarat on 12 Jan. 1854); he emigrated to US (during the war between England and France) in 1793/1795 at age 18; In his passage to this country he narrowly escaped impressment into the service of the British nation, then at war with France, the vessel was boarded by English Man-of-War and 18 of the crew and passengers were taken, he was saved only through the kindness of the Captain who concealed him between the 2 bed mattresses upon which his wife was confined by illness - in which situation his escape was at the cost of nearly being suffocated, it being in the hot weather of July; He subsequently sought a home in Northern PA in the area of Springville, Susquehana Co., PA which was then a comparative wilderness (in 1804 his family moved to Springville, PA to be with the Spencers - the trip between the 2 locations took about 12 days by horseback); he paid one visit to his native country after coming to America; He came with his wife, Susannah, and 2 children from state of NY in 1804 and settled below the Presbyterian church and also near Susannah Spencer Cassedy’s father’s home, Jeremiah Spencer; He was a man who read extensively, was well-versed in history, intelligent, of agreeable social qualities, a kind and hospitable friend and worthy citizen; he was one of the first vestrymen of St. Andrew’s Protestant Episcopal Church in 1834; Note - copy of letter in fill to W.A.T. Cassedy from his grandfather Thomas Cassedy, Mar. 10, 1844; Religion member of the Church of Ireland (Episcopal); he was a farmer; he is listed on the taxable list in Springville for 1815 Note1-- History of Lazerne County, PA states that Thomas Cassedy (#14) is the 7th Thomas Cassedy in a direct line of decendancy. Thomas Cassedy (#14) being Thomas Cassedy (#1) great grandson - therefore; Thomas Cassedy (#1) would have a father, greandfather and great-grandfather with the name of Thomas Cassedy
