Recorded in the Book of Charter, page 99, August 11th, 1761: "Province of New Hampshire- George the Third, By the Grace of God, Great Britain, France and Ireland, King Defenders of the Faith... settling a New Plantation within our said Province, by and with the Advice of our Trusty and well-Beloved Benning Wentworth Esqr., our Governor and Commander in Chief," (refers to incorporation of a town called Manchester, Vermont). "50 families to start, preserve all white and other Pine Trees within said Township fit for Masting Our Royal Navy."

Thomas's father, Issac, removed from a Rhode Island Monthly Meeting (Friends), to the Oblong M.M. in Dover, New York. Thomas was born there and migrated to Manchester, Vermont as his sister Mary did when she married John Smith. Both brother in law John and Thomas joined the militia, with Thomas rising to the rank of Captain under the command of Ira Allen, registerer of the original land grant found in the Papers of the Surveyors General, Vol. 19, page 163, (thank you Christine Grogan).

Thomas is also noted in the State of Vermont, Town of Manchester, Proprietors Records, Vol. A, 1761- 1850, ref: film #1844446. He is listed in the Index for May 5th, 1772, and on pages 22, 85, 103, 104, 105.
