Thomas Bent was baptised on 27th January 1793 at Luton in Bedfordshire, son of Susannah Bent, formerly Sheffield, and her husband James Bent.
On 10th July 1819, aged 26, Thomas married Mary Reeves, who was originally from Aston Clinton in Buckinghamshire. They married in Luton and had eight children there between 1821 and 1839. The 1841 census finds the family living at Dunstable Street in the town, with Thomas working as an agricultural labourer. By 1851 they had moved to Park Street, and Mary was described as a sewer and plaiter, working in Luton's straw hat industry.
Thomas died in 1857, aged 64. Mary survived him by about seven years.
