About Thomas Barkley

We know from the marriage record of Mamie Ellen Barkley and Frederick E. McCormick [3 Oct 1918 in Marion County, Indiana] that Mamie Ellen Barkley's parents were Tom Barkley and Mary Sanford Estes. We also know that Mary Sanford Estes, born in abt. 1881, is listed as "M.S. Barkley" in her marriage record to Edward E. Markham on their Marriage Certificate on 2 February 1902 in Simpson County, Kentucky, making it likely that Mary Estes and Thomas "Tom" Barkley did marry, although Mary Estes would have been only about age 15 when Mammie Ellen Barkley was born on 25 October 1896. It is also possible Mammie Ellen was born out-of-wedlock, but additional records are needed to determine. We also do not know if Tom Barkley died prior to 1902 when Mary Sanford Estes married Edward E. Markham in Simpson County, Kentucky, so it is certainly possible that he lived past that year and migrated elsewhere.
