In Welton, Iowa, May 26th, 1863, Thomas, son of Dea. John and Betsey Babcock, aged 39 years, 9 months, and 4 days. He embraced religion when 13 years of age, and united with the Seventh-day Baptist Church at Northampton, Ohio. He maintained a consistent Christian character to the day of his decease. He died of a strangulated hernia, for the relief of which he submitted to a surgical operation as the last resort, but survived it only about five hours, and then fell asleep in Jesus. His loss is most painfully realized, not only by his bereaved family, but by the church and community in this place.
