In Welton, Iowa, Dec. 28th, 1878, of dropsy, Mrs. Elizabeth Babcock, consort of the late Dea. John Babcock, in the 73d year of her age. Sister Babcock made a profession of religion soon after marriage, and was connected with a Seventh-day Baptist Church in Ohio. In company with her husband and others she came to Welton in 1854. She was one of the constituent members of the Welton Church. She lived an exemplary and useful life, was earnest in her desires for the promotion of the cause of Christ, and ready to bear a part in the service of his house. She lingered nearly a year in her last illness, but looked forward with bright hopes of acceptance in heaven, having an earnest desire to depart and be with Christ. It was a great satisfaction to her to have her pastor visit her and pray with and for her, and she was so long detained from meeting with her covenant brethren and sisters in the house of worship. A very large attendance at her funeral gave evidence of the high esteem in which she was held. Being on First-day, and at the hour of service at the Baptist Church in the village, they dismissed their congregation and came in. Services conducted by the writer from 2 Cor. 5: 1, 2. Thus was laid to rest the last one of eight couples of the old people who first settled in this place. H. B. L.
