Theresa Grant was born on 8th July 1858 at Portsmouth in Hampshire, daughter of Ellen Grant, formerly Bailey, and her husband Edmund Grant, a seaman. Theresa appears in the 1861 census living with her parents and younger sister Ellen in Portsmouth. Some time between 1861 and 1864 Theresa's father appears to have died, although it is not clear exactly when.
Theresa's mother Ellen married again in 1864, with an agricultural engine driver named George Sherwin becoming Theresa's stepfather.
In the 1871 census, Theresa was working as a domestic servant (despite being not yet thirteen years old) for an Inland Revenue supervisor in Chichester.
By 1881, Theresa appears to have married a man named Norris with whom she had two children. She appears in the 1881 census with her children (but not her husband) living with her mother and stepfather at the village of Oving near Chichester.
Theresa has yet to be researched after 1881.
