!Thelma was born at home. Thelma was a devoted mother and doted on her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She worked for a time in a nursing home. Perhaps it was what she saw there that made her determined to care for her husband at home when he fell in ill health. At the time of his death, she was also very ill, suffering the consequences of old-age, osteoporosis, etc. Her determination to care for her husband at home was very taxing for her physically. The day her husband died, her health plummeted. She was hospitalized on 31 Dec 1989. Twelve days later she told a nurse, "I'm about to leave this world". Within 5 minutes, she was gone - but her love will never be forgotten. Her obituary appeared in the Durham newspaper. Her graveside funeral service was just six short weeks after her husband's death. She was buried beside her husband in Oak Grove Memorial Gardens.
