The family manuscripts characterize him as 'a farmer and a breeder of fine horses' (Welles (1968) 5:43).
The will of Thaddeus Welles of Glastonbury was dated 11 August 1752. It names his wife Elizabeth; son Samuel; daughter Hannah; nominates his wife Elizabeth as Executor, and is witnessed by John Skinner, Jr., William Hooker, and J. Buckingham. It was proved 1 May 1781 by Samuel Welles. The bequest to wife Elizabeth included property which was hers to dispose of. The inventory was taken 26 April 1781 by Hosea Fox and Elijah Smith [possibly the younger brother of Jedidiah Smith, see References below) and totals £176:07:06 in Old Tenor, which comes to £22:05:00 in Continental Money (Hartford Probate District, Connecticut Estate Files, docket no. 5859, note that these estate papers have not been microfilmed but are available at the Connecticut State Archives)."
