"… Ruth Rice of Marlborough, Massachusetts, daughter of Dea. Edmund Rice and Mercy (Hurd) Bingham, born 29 September 1659 in Sudbury, Massachusetts (Sudbury pub. VR 123); and died 31 March 1742 in Glastonbury, Connecticut (Barbour citing VR 1:14, although Hale 7 gives the date as the 39th [sic - see following comment]), at age 82 according to her gravestone in Green Cemetery (Hale 7)."
NOTE: See her mother's person page for a discussion of the Hurd surname. [Note: the gravestone says 30, so presumably the date of 39 seen above is a typo, probably by this source. The online record for Ruth Welles in the Hale collection here says 30.]

Here lies Interred the Body of Mrs Ruth Wells Relict of Capt Samuel Well[s?] Decd who died March 30[th?] [chipped, appears to say 17]42 in the 83[rd?] Year of her Age. [Note: NEHGR, "Inscriptions at Glastonbury, Conn.", Vol. 85, p. 68, says "Capt. Samuel Welles died Aug. 28, 1731, in his 72d year. Ruth, his widow, died Mar. 30, 1742, in her 83d year." which qualitatively agrees if not a verbatim inscription.]
