Thérèse Hubertine Hammond was born in 1864 at Salehurst in Sussex, daughter of a housekeeper named Marie Thérèse Hammond, formerly Boutray, and her husband John Hammond, a butler. Both her parents worked for a clergyman named George Luxford, and the 1871 census finds Thérèse and her parents living at their employer's house, Higham House in Salehurst.

Some time between 1871 and 1881, her parents stopped working in domestic service, and moved to Hove on the Sussex coast, where they ran a boarding house at 53 Brunswick Road. Thérèse appears there with her parents in both the 1881 and 1891 censuses. Thérèse's father died shortly after the 1891 census. The 1901 census finds Thérèse and her mother still at 53 Brunswick Road.

Thérèse's mother died in 1909, after which Thérèse took on the running of the boarding house at 53 Brunswick Road. The 1911 census finds her running it assisted by her older brother John.

Thérèse lived to be eighty years old. She later lived at 18 Park Road, Southborough, Kent. She died on 11th June 1945 at a nursing home in Southborough.
