1840 Clarke County GA, Pg. 232, 261st Dist. Tarpley Hanson, males 2/0-4, 2/59, 2/10-14, 1/40-49. females 1/0-4, 1/5-9, 2/15-19, 2/20-29, 1/40-49. Note: James Hanson is listed on the next census page (but in District 223) is probably his brother. (Tapley appears in Morgan Co. GA tax records in 1841, so he apparently moved from Clarke County shortly after the 1840 census.)

1850 Morgan County GA, Pg. 143 Hanson, Tarply, 54 VA Moriah (Mariah), 50 GA James, 24 GA Mary A., 17 GA Francis M., 15 GA Joseph S., 13 GA Thomas, 10 GA Virginia, 8, GA William N., 6 GA Note: In the second house above Tarpley is Josiah Barrett, who witnessed the last will and testament of James Hanson Sr. 1837/42.

1860 Cherokee County AL, Pg. 64-A, Center P. O. Taply Hanson, 64, VA., Farmer Virginia A. A., 17, GA William N., 15, GA Son Thomas R., age 21, b GA, lives nearby (found on the next census page; page 65) with wife Mourning C. age 19. There are also children of James Sr. living in Cherokee Co. Mourning's parents, Littleberry (L.B.) and Sarah Bagwell, live next door to Tapley.

In 1870 his youngest child, son William N., has the same piece of property (according to a relative who lives in the area), but Tapley is no longer there and sister Virginia has married the widower of sister Syntha/Cintha (William Scott Williams). It is reported by the relative that there was some dispute about the state line in the area where Tapley had lived (and where William N. then lived). It may be that the house lay on the line. In 1860 it's in AL and in 1870 it's in GA.

Tapley also appears in Morgan County GA Tax Lists from 1843-1852 and possible longer since some years are not posted online.
