· Listed in household of Tarpley Hanson in 1850 Morgan Co, GA as Virginia Hanson and in 1860 Cherokee Co., AL census in household of Tapley Henson as Virginia A.A. Henson. Listed in 1870 Cherokee Co., AL census with husband William S. Williams as Virginia and in 1880 as "Permelia;" the latter is a mistake on the census taker's part during a rewrite of daily notes into the official record; there is a Samuel J. Williams in the area who had a wife named Permelia and daughter Artimissa. (see also notes for daughter Cintha/Syntha, too). 1900 Cherokee County census, Spring Garden precinct, page 55-B Virginia A. Williams as "Verginia A. Williams", 69, widow, 11 children born, 5 still living, GA VA GA Williams family history from Mrs. Velma May Williams Cordle, Virginia's granddaughter by son J. Hugh Henry Scott Williams, indicates Virginia's name was Virginia Belle Hanson, the middle name likely being a shortened form of Annabelle, which would explain the middle initial "A" in the censuses. According to Williams family history, Virginia was known as "Big Puss" and her step-daughter/niece Elizabeth A. was called "Little Puss". Mrs. Willie Owens Gray stated that Robert L. Williams also nicknamed one of his daughters "Puss". Williams-Hanson family history indicates Virginia was the younger sister of Syntha Hanson (the 1st wife of Wm. S. Williams) and both were daughters of Tapley Hanson/Henson. The Williams family had previously thought that Virginia's father was named Tom Henson, which was likely misunderstood from the pronunciation of "Tap" Hanson/Henson., although Tapley Henson/Hanson did have a son named Thomas Rhalls Hanson who settled in Floyd Co GA (which is just east of Cherokee Co AL) "Civil War Veterans and Widows, Cherokee Co., AL" by Catherine C. Mann shows William S. and "Bud" Williams were privates in Co. B of the 31st Alabama Infantry, CSA. Bud likely is Wilson T. Williams, WS and Syntha's oldest son, however no documentation of this has been found. The same document also shows that William's 2nd wife Virginia drew a civil war veteran widow's pension at Centre RFD and Key (Key Post Office) until her death 4 Dec 1913. I found this in her Civil War soldier's widow's pension in the state archives, along with the pension record of William S. Williams. I have picture of Virginia as 50+ year old woman positively identified by family members as Virginia, mother of Joseph M. Williams. Another picture from the Willie Gray Owens' article in "Heritage of Cherokee County" shows Virginia with husband William and 5 children [Della, Robert, Frank (the youngest), Tiney, Scott]. Both pictures appear to have been taken on the same day about 1898 (William S. Wiliams died 25 Oct 1898). Her birthdate is taken from the 1900 census for Cherokee Co., AL page 55-B.· Type: Creation Date · Change Date: 25 Feb 2008 at 22:12:44 William Scott Williams & Virginia A http://trees.ancestry.com/rd?f=image&guid=97282e59-6a29-44fd-ae9d-1434046984ba&tid=31266413&pid=641 References
