She never said goodby to a ny of the children --just left. When Hubert Everson came home, they told them about his wife 's departure. He said, "We'll get along fine." Syrena quit school f or a bit to take care of her younger bothers. At some point one of her ol der sisters, either Lillianor Sarah, quit their job at the telephone company and stayed home with t he younger children and Syrena returned to school. It is unclear if Minne ta stayed with the man that she left home for. As a young child, her gran dson, Louie Haskell, Jr. remembers visiting her in New Haven, Connecticut. He and his wife, Els ie Simmons, also remember visiting Minneta's house in the Kingston, Massac husetts area where she had a house. In one version of this story, Syre na said that Minneta wantedto come back home and her older sisters were trying to talk the father in to allowing her back, but he would have none of it. Syrena said that h is cousin was Ernest White, a descendant of the White on the Mayflower. S ays her father was born inthe house she grew up in in Bryantsville ( a part of Pembroke
