Capt. Sylvester Turpen died Monday and was buried at Bunnell cemetery Wednesday morning. The funeral services were held by Rev. W. B. Sultz, at the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Henry A. Langton. In politics he was a democrat, and was honored by his party by being elected as clerk of Tipton county for eight years. He served gallantly during the late rebellion as Captain of Company C, 101st Reg. Ind. Infantry. Captain Turpen was twice married, Jap Turpen the famous correspondent of the Indianapolis Sentinel and a pension commissioner under President Cleveland, being an issue by his first wife. Those of his children who are yet living are Mrs. C. V. Paul, of Indianapolis, Mrs. Hattie Jones, of Natches, Mrs. H. A. Langton and Samuel Turpen of Frankfort. He located in this city three years ago, being engaged with his son-in-law, H. A. Langton, in the timber business.
