Susannah Holmes' origins have yet to be established. Her first confirmed sighting is in 1775 when she married a labourer called Henry Goodman at Walton in northern Buckinghamshire. They then moved to the nearby village of Willen, where they had three children baptised between 1776 and 1782. Susannah died just four months after the baptism of her third child, being buried at Willen on 9th January 1783. She was described as a pauper at the time of her burial. Henry remarried four years after her death.
