Parents: Philip Deter, Jr., son of Philip Deter and Christina Bower; Elizabeth Billmire, daughter of John Martin (Johann Martin) Billmire (Bihlmeier) and Catharina Thomas. The family name was originally Dietrich. Philip Deter, Jr. was born circa 1781 in Maryland and died March 19, 1859 in Ohio. He is buried at Shambaugh-Byers Cemetery in Monroe, Richland County. His father, Philip Deter, Sr., was born circa 1760 in Washington County, Maryland to Jacob Deter (Dietrich) and Sarah ----. He married Christina Bower in Washington County, Maryland on November 25, 1780 and died before November 6, 1843 in Ohio. Jacob Dietrich was born March 10, 1730 in Allmannsweier, Schwanau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany to Theobald Dietrich and Anna Barbara Urban and was baptized there the following day. He married Sarah ---- in Washington County, Maryland, shortly after immigrating in 1752. He died in Washington County, Maryland in the month of July, 1806. Theobald Deter (Dietrich) and Anna Barbara Urban were married January 18, 1724 in Allmannsweier, Schwanau, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. She died before February 8, 1734 when Theobald married second Anna Maria Süter in neighboring Wittenweier. She died before May 1, 1752 when Theobald married third Anna Maria Jockers in Allmannsweier; she accompanied Theobald and Jacob on the voyage to Washington County, Maryland and died there between January 26 and February 18, 1767. Christina Bower was born February 15, 1756 in Frederick County, Maryland and died after November 6, 1843 in Ohio. Her father, Conrad, was born in Germany and immigrated on the ship "Neptune," landing at Philadelphia on September 24, 1751. He lived in Frederick and Washington Counties, Maryland, and moved to Ohio after 1800. He died in what is today Bowerston, Harrison County and is buried at Longview Cemetery. His headstone lies flat, and is inscribed only with the initials "CB" and the year 1810. His wife was Eva ----, and their children were baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick, Maryland. Elizabeth Billmire was born circa 1781 in Frederick County, Maryland and baptized at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Frederick on March 25, 1781. She died December 30, 1861 in Ohio and is buried her husband, Philip, at Shambaugh-Byers Cemetery in Monroe, Richland County. John Martin Billmire was born in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania and baptized by prominent Lutheran Minister the Rev. Johann Casper Stoever in July of 1746 in Manheim, Lancaster County. He was commissioned 1st Lieutenant of the 3rd (Western) Battalion, Washington County Militia by the Council of Maryland in Annapolis on June 22, 1778. He was later promoted to Captain and served in the Maryland Continental Army guarding prisoners of war. His last Will and Testament is dated April 7, 1812 in Washington County, Maryland and he died there on April 19. He is buried at Mount Hebron United Brethren Cemetery in Keedysville. The movement began in Pennsylvania in 1767 and the denomination was organized in 1800. It is not clear if he was a member or if the cemetery he was buried in came into the hands of the UB after he died. Martin Billmire's father, Johann Leonard, was born circa 1706 in Germany and immigrated on the ship "Britannia of London," landing at Philadelphia on September 21, 1731. He was naturalized September 21, 1750 in Lancaster County. His wife was Anna Bart; they were married by Rev. Johann Casper Stoever on November 9, 1736 in Leacock, Lancaster County. Catharina Thomas was born July 22, 1747 in Frederick County, Maryland and baptized at the Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick. Her father, Gabriel, was born June 12, 1721 in Schifferstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and immigrated with his parents and six siblings on the ship "Thistle of Glasgow," landing at Philadelphia on August 29, 1730. He owned 326 acres of "Poplar Thicket" and 160 acres of Osborn Sprigg's "Forest" tract in Frederick County. He died January 18, 1794 and his last Will and Testament was proved February 5. He is buried at Manor Cemetery in Church Hill, Frederick. His wife, Anna Margaretha, was born February 16, 1727. Gabriel Thomas' parents, Johann Michael (son of Christian Thomas, d. 1708, Schifferstadt, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany) and Anna Veronica, daughter of Peter Lang, were married January 10, 1713 in Böhl-Iggelheim, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany and immigrated on the "Thistle of Glasgow." Michael Thomas may have died shortly after arriving. Anna Margaretha Remsberg was a daughter of George Remsberg, born Johann Georg Riemensperger, in Walldorf, Baden-Württemberg, Germany. He was born to Johann Jacob and Anna Catharina Bischoff and baptized November 26, 1684. George Remsberg's parents were married in Walldorf on January 12, 1669. Johann Jacob's father was Johann Riemensperger; Anna Catharina was a daughter of Johann Erhard Bischoff and Anna Höffner. Susannah spent the years between 1852 and the rest of her life in Jefferson Township. Repetition of this fact has been omitted from census data for the sake of readability. Susannah's grave was visited and documented in May, 2011. References
