Susan McLaughlin (1808-1850), sister of Hugh McLaughlin (1825-1904) and mother of Hugh "Bub" McLaughlin (1827-1899), is commemorated in 2 cemeteries at 3 gravesites. All agree that she was 42 years old. In the graveyard attached to St. James' Pro-Cathedral, Jay Street in Brooklyn, there is a marker for her. Her death date is recorded as 1 Oct 1850. Her father Hugh McLaughlin, d. 9 Feb 1835, aged 50 years, and her brother Luke, d. 18 Jun 1849, aged 32, are buried there as reported in Brooklyn Daily Eagle, "The Cathedral Ground," 9 Dec 1888, p. 6. The article states that Susannah Duffy was the last person buried there on 1 Jul 1849. In Holy Cross Cemetery, Brooklyn, Susan's name is inscribed on her son Hugh "Bub" McLaughlin' family monument with death date of 1 Oct 1850. Her name is also inscribed on her parents' Hugh McLaughlin and Grace McLaughlin's family monument. Her death date here is recorded as 10 Oct 1850. This latter monument is best known for the inscription for Hugh McLaughlin and his wife Sarah Ellen Kays. References
