Stephen Miles was baptised on 17th February 1723 at Broadway in Worcestershire.

Stephen’s next sighting is on 6th October 1763, by which time he was forty years old, when he married Ann White at Broadway in Worcestershire. She was already heavily pregnant when they married, as their first son was baptised just a couple of months after their marriage.

Stephen and Ann had nine children baptised at Broadway between 1763 and 1781, although one died when just a few months old.

Ann died in 1790, when she was said to be 51 years old. Stephen survived her by nearly twelve years. He died aged 79 and was buried at Broadway on 14th April 1802.

   This baptism has been identified as the Stephen who married Ann White on the basis that it is in the same parish in which Stephen married and lived as an adult and at the time implied by the age given when he died. The adult Stephen also named one of his sons David, which was the name of the father of the Stephen baptised in 1723. However, other records conflict with the name of Stephen's mother - David's wife's name is recorded on the baptisms earlier and later children give her name as Frances rather than Jennifer.
