Ledger: Stephen Edward Jackson went to Texas just before the War of the Confederacy began and had bought up a large number of horses and cattle in partnership with Byron Bassel but ____ the larger portion of them. He enlisted in the Confederate Army & was captured at Fort Donaldson and sent a prisoner to Camp. Had he lived he would have been married to Lucy Goodloe, a sister to the author's Grandmother. After the war he returned to Texas and had just gotton his affairs in good shape and went with a party of friends & citizens to watch a party of Indians who had been killing and stealing their horses; and getting in a skirmish he was killed by the ball from the gun of an Indian.

From Bill White, Jane Lew: wording of the above is slightly different: Stephen was engaged to Lucy Goodloe, a sister to Sallie Ann Goodloe Jackson, wife of James W. Jackson.
