[v4t1143 thomas nc.FTW] Stephen Farley, son of John and Sarah Farley, was born 18 June 1762, in Amelia Co., VA, and married Mary Mitchell, daughter of Thomas, 2 January, 1787. Mary was born 2 January, 1767, in Amelia County. Reference: Pension Claims # 13819 and # 5744 William and Mary Quarterly Vol. 16 1st Series, page 91. Marriages of Amelia County, Virginia. The application for marriage license, 27 December, 1786, says she was the niece of Charles Stewart, who gave his consent. Stephen served in the revolutionary War and from his pension claim, the following facts are gathered: Reference: Pension Claim # 13819.,issued June 22,1833,rate$ 23.33 per annum In the spring of 1778, when not yet seventeen, he was drafted into the War of Independence. Soon after that term was up, he served again for his brother, William, who was "not in a condition to go." Later he was, himself, drafted for another three months. After the War, he lived 6 years in Franklin Co., Virginia 2 years in Rowan Co., North Carolina 4 years in Lunenburg Co.,2 years Nottoway Co.,3 years Prince Edward Co.,VA.from there he moved to Caswell Co.,North Carolina and finally White County, Tennessee,where he was living in 1832 After his death in 1838, Mary Farley applied for a widow's pension. Reference: Pension Claim # 5744.issued Sep.10,1838 Nashville TN. Agency", Judith Farley, widow of John Farley, the brother of Stephen, was a witness. Isham Farley, son of John and Judith, nephew of Mary andStephen, made an affidavit 1 June, 1840, saying the Bible record belonged to his father, John Farley, the brother of Stephen. On 3 August, 1840, Thomas Tallant, son-in-law to Mary Farley, and Jeremiah Farley, her son, signed an affidavit in her behalf. Reference: Ibid. Will of Stephen Farley: I, Stephen Farley, of the County of White and State of Tennessee, Planter, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former wills by me at any time heretofore made -- First I direct that my body be decently interred in a manner suitable to my condition in life. And as to such worldly estate as it hath pleased God to entrust me with, I dispose of the same as follows: First, I direct that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of my monies that I may die possessed of, or may first come into the hands of my eecutors from any portionof my estate real or personal. Secondly - I give and bequeath unto my dear wife Mary Farley all of my goods and chattells, lands and tenements during her lifetime. Third - I give and bequeath unto my seven children, Obedience, William, Thomas, John, Jeremiah, Nancy and Stephen and at the death of my dealy beloved wife Mary Farley, the whold of my property, both real and personal, be it of what kind, nature or quality soever to be equally divided between these my above named children. I do hereby make, ordain and appoint my beloved Son-in-law Thomas Tallent and Jeremiah Farley my dear son, executors of this my last will and testament. In witness whereof, I, Stephen Farley, the said Testator have to this my last will and written on one sheet of paper, set my hand and seal this the eighth of October in the year of our Lord One Thousand eight hundred and thirty seven.
