Stephen Charleton was the father of Ann Charleton, the wife of Col. Edmund Scarborough of Accomac Shire, Virginia. Stephen married Ann, the widow of Anthony West who came to Virginia in 1622 and resided at James City, and in 1625 at the plantations opposite on the south side; settled in Northampton county, where he was one of the justices and lieutenant colonel of the militia. He (West) died in 1651, leaving a son, John West. He was some relation to Thomas West, Lord De La Warr (Delaware), as the arms of his family were the same as those of his lordship.
