Dr. Stanley B. Apple, 100, of Hamilton, NJ, passed away peacefully on Monday, January 12, 2015 in the comfort of his home.
Dr. Apple was born in Yardley, PA, to the late George L. and Ella A. (Wenlock). He graduated from Trenton High School and Pennington Prep School. He attended Wake Forest University on a full athletic scholarship and continued his education at Hahnemann Medical School.
An exceptional athlete, Dr. Apple participated in football, basketball and baseball. He was member of the Wake Forest 1938 ACC Basketball Championship team.
A World War II Veteran of the U.S. Navy, Dr. Apple was assigned to serve in the South Pacific with the U.S. Marine Corps.
A member of the American College of Surgeons and the American Board of Surgeons, Dr. Apple served as the Chief of Surgery at Helene Fuld Hospital in Trenton for 20 years. After retiring, he and his wife, Virginia, moved to Sarasota FL, where he was an avid golfer. He enjoyed playing with the Jolly Boys at the Sara Bay Country Club.
Predeceased by his son, Kevin W. Apple, Dr. Apple is survived by his wife of 72 years, Virginia B. (Batten) Apple; his two daughters, Carolyn A. Kozlowski and her husband, Dave of Sarasota, FL and Betsy Apple Gilbert and her husband, Carl of Hamilton; his son, S. Benson Apple, Jr. and his fiancée Darlene Busacca of Hamilton; his eight grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren.
Cremation services will be private under the direction of the Saul Colonial Home, 3795 Nottingham Way, Hamilton Square, NJ.
