Sophia was known as Sophy Spens BLACK. In the 1861 census Sophia S. Black was at Thanet St. Peter, Kent (ancestry.com submission) or at boarding school in Broadstairs, Kent. In the 1881 census she, at the age of 36, was at 67 Leamington Terrace, Edinburgh, with Jane Hewit LOGIE nee BLACK (born 1817, Sophia’s aunt), Mary LOGIE (born 1823, Irvine, Ayrshire) and Anna Barbara LOGIE (born 1856, Hamilton, Ontario), a niece of Mary. In 1911 Sophia lived at 61 Merchiston Crescent, Edinburgh, Midlothian (R. Huggard). In 1918 she corresponded with Frances Eleanor McNair.
