- I the name of God Amen I William Butler of Bedford County in the state of Virginia being weak in body, but of sound memory do make this my Last Will and Testament in manner following to wit. First commending my soul to God, my body to be decently buried.
- I give to SOLOMON BUTLER STEVENS that part of the trial of land I now live in from the lane that divides my plantation from that said SOLOMON formally ceased and lived on along the new fence that runs to Woodford line thence along the said line a little beyond the corner Hickory upon thence a Stright line to the said land above mentioned. Item I give to William Little a boy that is bound to me know lives with me my track of land on the waters of Boch River containing One Hundred and ten acres joining Pratts line to be delivered into his possession when he arrives at lawful age. Thence to Milley Williams during her life all that part of my land from from Solomon Butler line above mentioned to Arron Booram and Pratts line and at her death I give the said land to her daughter formerly provided thence. Milley nor any person in behalf shall neither cease nor rent the said land to any during her life and if they shall attempt to do so. It's my will that said land is to be Immediately vested in said Fanny, daughter of said Milley insame manner of as if said Milley were actually dead. Item I give to said Milley Williams on all the estate and property that have formally left to her and her heirs forever. Item I give to William Little my youngest colt, cow and calf on his arrival at lawful age. Item I lend to my beloved wife during her life all my other estate both real and personal ( not mentioned above ) and at the death of my wife I give all the said estate both real and personal to Laldey Rasee, little Girl that nows lives with me and lastly I constitute and appoint my beloved wife executor and Col. Thomas Leftwitch executor of this my last will hereby revoke all others. I declare this and on otherto be my Last Will and Testament. In witness where of i have set my hand and affixed my seal this thirtyeth day of July 1794.

On May 20, 1778, Solomon B. Stephens/Stevens was given a land grant of 44 acers in Huddleston area of Bedford County, Virginia, on Goose Creek. Solomon is listed as a tax payer in 1782-1787. He had considerable land situated near or adjoining Goose Creek. He was reared by supposedly an Aunt and Uncle by the names of William and Frances Butler. Upon the death of William Butler in 1794, Solomon inherited part of his land.He was so impressed with the Butlers having raised him, he assumed their name as his middle name and named his children after them also. He lived in the Huddleston area of Bedford County Virginia. Mrs Anne Lohmann, Aug. 15, 1990 ( Solomon Butler Stephens/Stevens Sr. ) The 1820 census of Bedford County.
