Member of Andover Militia. Fought at Lexington. Then enlisted as Private in Army of the Revolutionary War. Fought in Battle of Bunker Hill. Member of Washington's "Headquarter's Guards", 1776. General Washington first wanted only fellow Virginians in this exclusive guard, but after the first year more were included.

In Andover at 1790 census which shows 1 male over 16, 4 under 16 and 3 females in his household.

The Massachusetts and Maine 1798 Direct Tax shows him with one farm in Andover "Bounded by the Frances Lovejoy and the road", with one barn 30x20, one shop 15X12. It also lists two tracts, one "on the east side of the road", the other "calld the wood swamp". It lists his home as "East by the County Road", 2 stories high, with 15 windows, valued at $175.

The 1800 census for Andover shows 3 males under 10, 2 10 through 15 and 2 16-25. It shows 3 females under 10 and 1 16-25 along with him and his wife.
