Sam T. Sinnema, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, April 1, 2006. He was born March 10, 1915, in Slapeterp, Friesland, The Netherlands, to Tjeerd and Deouwke (VanderKurr) Sinnema.
In 1921, at the age of 5, he immigrated to the United States with his parents and two brothers, settling in the Gallatin Valley. He attended Anceny and Hills schools. After completing eighth grade, he worked for various farmers until 1939 when he bought a dry land farm west of Manhattan.
He married Jessie Kamps on Nov. 22, 1939. They lived on the farm until 1948 when they moved to Churchill. In 1978 he retired, sold the farm and spent the next 19 winters in Florida where he enjoyed golfing. Sam also enjoyed bowling and fishing. In 1995, Sam and Jessie traveled to his country of birth.
Sam is survived by Jessie, his wife of 66 years; four daughters, Pat (Ken) Carlson of Grand Rapids, Mich., Dorothy (Maynard W.) Flikkema and Sheri (Eldon) Van Dyken of Churchill, and Peggy (Roger) De Haan of Townsend; two sons, Richard (Liz) Sinnema of Mesa, Ariz., and Ben (Beth) Sinnema of Bozeman. He is also survived by 19 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren, one nephew and three nieces. He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Richard and George; an infant sister; and three nephews.
Interment will be in Churchill Cemetery at 10 a.m. Friday, April 7. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. at Manhattan Christian Reformed Church.
