- Shadrach Estep's Will
- In the name of God Amen
- Being weak in body but sound in mind and memory calling to mind that it is appointed of God once for all men to die. I constitute this my last Will & Testament in form and manner as follows.
- First & foremost I bequeath my soul to God that gave it.
- Secondly I request that my body be decently interred at the discretion of my executors hereafter mentioned.
- Thirdly I request that all my just debts be paid & as to my worldly estate, I bequeath in the following manner.
- That all my real & personal estate to be my wifes and remain in her hands during her life & after her decease to be equally divided between my children John, Moses, Elijah, Elizabeth, Mary, James, Sarah & Rachel Estep and I constitute my son John Estep & my wife Ruth & Ezekel Baird Edge my Executurs & Executrix to this my last Will & Testament.

SOURCE: Family info from GFD. Shadrach & Ruth's children are listed in Shadrach's Will in Ashe Co., NC, dated 31 May1801 (Ashe Co. Wills, Book A, p66) Shadrach is found in 2 Census of North Carolina: In1790: in Morgan District of Wilkes Co.,
with 2 males over 16 incl himself, 2 males under 16 and 5 females. In 1800, in Ashe Co.(formed from Wilkes in 1799), he & his wife are listed with one girl of 10/16 yrs of age and one 16/26 yr. Both parents are over 45yr. old. In the same
county in 1810, his son John was over 45 so Shadrach must have been 65 or more in 1810 had he lived (and born before 1745)
OCCUPATION: Shadrach was a miller as was his son, Elijah. A court order, 6 Nov 1787, ordered that Shadrach have leave to build a water grist mill on Cove Creek where he now lives. (Court of Pleas, Washington Co., TN., p.300) At that time there
was confusion of boundaries and the property was actually in Wilkes Co., NC, which is now Watauga Co.
