    Death of Mrs. John Lippy.

In the death of this lady another one of the early settlers has departed. She came to Wilson county with her husband in 1870, and the couple have lived in town or country ever since. She had been quite feeble for a long time, her age being nearly seventy-one years, and her death was not unexpected. She expired in her bed at night-time, quietly and without pain, beside her sleeping husband, who was not aware that she had passed away until morning.

The maiden name of the deceased was Sarah Zepp, and she was born in Carroll county, Maryland. She was married to John Lippy, at her native home, in 1833, and the couple had therefore lived together, happily and prosperously, for fifty-five years. They moved from Maryland to Pennsylvania, thence to Ohio and Illinois, and lastly to Kansas.

The deceased was the mother of fourteen children, ten of whom survive her as follows: Mrs. Marinda Lee, Mrs. M.J. Schlegel and D.E. Lippy, of Fredonia; Mrs. O.H. Lee, of Oak Valley; Wm. Lippy, of Nebraska, and Mrs. Samuel Laswell, John H. Lippy, G.W. Lippy and Mrs. Benton Markley of Illinois.

Wednesday was fixed as the date for the funeral, but it was found necessary to postpone it till today (Friday) to enable all the sons and daughters of Mrs. Lippy to reach here to attend. They were all present. Mrs. Lippy had been a faithful member of the Christian church for nearly sixty years, and the funeral services were conducted by Rev. T.G. Mahan, pastor of that church in this city, at 11 o'clock this forenoon.

A good and true woman, a kind and quiet neighbor, a gentle and tender mother, a devoted and considerate wife, has gone to her reward, after a long, useful and exemplary life, leaving behind a memory which all her children must know is fragrant and precious. The afflicted family have the sympathy of their large number of friends and acquaintances.
