The Seneca Tribune, May 3, 1894, page 3, col. 8:
"Mrs. John H. Campbell, of Ontario, died at 11 o'clock last Friday morning. Mrs. Campbell had been ailing for years, yet her death was not altogether expected. The funeral occurred Saturday, services being held at the Ontario school house, Rev. Warner, of Soldier City, conducting. Mrs. Campbell with her husband were an old resident of this township. There was a large attendance at the funeral.--Spectator."
Nemaha County Spectator, Wetmore, Kansas, Friday, May 4, 1894, page 1, col. 4, Ontario Correspondence:
"This week we perform the sad act of recording the death of one of our oldest and best citizens. Sarah V. Williams was born in Mitchell county Indiana, February 2, 1840. When she was fifteen her father removed to Iowa, and a few years later still farther west to Kansas where she was married to John H. Campbell, December 31, 1861. Seven children were born to them four of whom died during infancy. Another, Frances, died after reaching maturity, December 2, 1887. The other two, Henry, the eldest, and Mary, the next to the youngest, are still living. Mrs. Campbell experienced religion when but a child, uniting with the church when a girl of sixteen. Since then she has been a consistent and zealous Christian, ever ready to lighten a burdened soul by her cheering words and actions. She died at the old Campbell homestead at the age of 53 years 4 months and 18 days. She leaves a host of friends who mourn her death and miss her pleasant face and helpful counsel. Many a young person of Ontario now remembers the many words of advice she once gave them. The number of friends that followed her to her grave, Sunday April 22, was the largest ever seen at the Ontario cemetery. Mr. Campbell is left in feeble health and he has the sympathy of all."
