Sarah Thrussell was born on 27th July 1756 and baptised a couple of weeks later at Hitchin in Hertfordshire. She was the daughter of Elizabeth Thrussell, formerly Jeeves, and her husband John Thrussell, a victualler. In 1759, when Sarah was not quite three years old, her mother died.

Elizabeth seems to have died as a child of seven years old, being buried on 24th August 1763.
