Re: Find A Grave Photo Request: Pocasset Cemetery? From: William Hunter (will.hunter@@yahoo.com) Sent: Mon 11/24/08 11:35 AM To: tombwhisperz@@hotmail.com Sir, I photo volunteer and often visit the Pocasset Cemetery. I will print this and your other requests at Pocasset and attempt to fulfill it. However, I am busy with the holiday, so I may not get to it for awhile. My suggestion to folks looking for information on graves in this cemetery is you call the office at (401) 944-2112 between 9am-12am Mondays, Wednesdays, or Friday. The staff will help you get the Plot Numbers. The lady that runs the office is extremely helpful and professional. If you don't get her first try, call back. She is a one woman office and often has to step out for cemetery business. Once, you get the plot numbers post them on the memorial page and if you would email them to me directly. Then I or if another volunteer goes before I do, we can use the plot map to find the grave quickly. I suggest this also, because the Burial Records are very detailed at Pocasset. Sometimes the cards hold additional information such as "person of interest"- basically the next of kin arranging the funeral, who bough the plot - usually another ancestor, and occasionally even notes if it is a reburial with original location. (Reburial is not uncommon in Rhode Island as many families moved early relatives from rural farm plots to the nice new cemeteries in the 19th century. The burial gives clues to here the person lived - usually on or near the family plot.I assume this was sometimes do to land sale.) The office is much more comfortable sharing this information with a relative or descendant. For you especially with a bunch of family request from this location the information can be useful. Thanks for considering this. It will save me time. Basically, I will have do this myself if you don't. If you get them for me I can go on a free afternoon or weekend and get the pictures and not have to go during office hours. I will also keep my eyes out for earlier Hawkins at the many small historic plots around Cranston and Providence. From: Lorraine Hawkins (lorrainejhawkins@@yahoo.com) Sent: Sat 11/22/08 5:37 PM To: tombwhisperz@@hotmail.com Hi Thomas, My name is Lorraine Hawkins and I am the g-granddaughter of Ethan Hawkins and Anna Tufts, and the g-g granddaughter of Smith B. Hawkins and Susannah Young Taylor. I saw your name at the Find-A-Grave website for the page on Smith B. Hawkins grave. Now I am living in Connecticut, but next week for Thanksgiving holiday I am going to Cranston, RI and would like to find the grave of Smith and Susannah. Could you tell me where it is in the Pocasset cemetery? Also I'm looking for their history and the history of their family. Thanks for your time. Best wishes, Lorraine Hawkins |
