Obit of Vera Nix Brown � Author:�Wanda Rabb Date:�10 Feb 2004 1:38 AM GMT � Surnames:�Nix, Brown, McJunkins, Grififn, Grossnickle, Hipps, Blalock, Smith � Classification:�Obituary Asheville Citizen-Times Asheville, NC November 29, 2003 Vera Brown Canton - Vera Nix Brown, 82, formerly of Substation Road, Canton, died Thursday, Nov. 27, 2003, at Tar River Nursing Home in Greenville, N.C. She was a native of Oconee County, S.C., and resided in Haywood County for many years prior to moving to Greenville. She was the daughter of the late William F. and Zadie McJunkin Nix. Mrs. Brown was a member of Canton First Baptist Church and a former employee of Champion International. She was preceded in death by her husband, William Christopher Brown, who died in 1993 and a son, James M. Brown, who died in 1996. She is survived by two daughters, Mary Chris Griffin of Fuquay-Varina and Claire Grossnickle and her husband, William, of Greenville; daughter-in-law, Mary Lou Brown of Greenville; two sisters, Sarah Hipps and Mildred Whitted, both of Canton; brother, Bill Nix of Canton; six grandchildren, Chuck Blalock and wife, Karen, and David Blalock and wife, Gina, all of Raleigh, Jimmy Brown and wife, Shelly, of Plymouth, Gary Griffin and wife, Ginger, and Michael Griffin, all of Fuquay-Varina and Laura Smith and husband, Brian, of Winterville; and nine great-grandchildren, Melissa, Chase, Zachary, Victoria, Keaton, Colin, Holly, Joshua and Jordan. A memorial service is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday at the Canton chapel of Wells Funeral Homes. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Sunday from 12:30 to 1:45pm. Burial will follow at Bon-A-Venture Cemetery on Old Clyde Road. Grandsons will serve as honorary pallbearers. Memorials may be made to the Haywood County Rescue Squad, P.O.
