Sarah Horton was the daughter of John Horton and Winifred Teasley. She was born in Georgia. Her family came to Sabine County Texas before 1836. She married a cousin, James J. Horton, November 18, 1850 in Montgomery County TX. They moved to Lavaca County Texas. Stories handed down in the family say that Sarah was a mid-wife and was often called upon to help with sick and injured in the community. She would set broken legs or whatever. One time she saw some Indians coming and she carefully hid from them. After the death of her husband she moved to Navarro County Texas to live with her son Thomas Horton, this explains why she is buried in Navarro County.
