Will of Sarah E. Cowan in Cedar County Probate Records, Volume A 1846-1892, Missouri

I, Sarah E. Cowan of the County of Cedar in the State of Missouri do make and publish this my last will and testament 1st. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary E. Cowan, my son Wade M. Cowan and my daughter Margaret C. Cowan, their heirs and assigns all my real estate situate in the Counties of Cedar and St Clair, State of Missouri to each share and share alike, to have and to hold to these and their heirs and assigns forever 2nd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary E. Cowan Two beds and bedclothes one horse or mare to be taken at the appraised value. 3rd. I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret C. Cowan Two beds and bedclothes one horse or mare to be taken at the appraised value. 4th. I give and bequeath to my son Wade M. Cowan one bed and bedclothes one horse to be taken at the appraised value, and also one Wheat drill at his option and the trunk of clothing of William Cowan deceased. 5th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Nancy Ann Preston the sum of five Dollars, 6th I Will and direct that all of the foresaid property shall be appraised and divided equally between the said Mary E. Cowan, Wade M. Cowan and Margaret Cowan as set forth in the second, third and fourth clauses of my Will 7th. I give and bequeath to my daughter Mary E. Cowan her fathers enlarged picture 8th I give and bequeath to my daughter Margaret C. Cowan William Cowans, deceased enlarged picture. 9th I give and bequeath to my son Wade M. Cowan Choice of the small pictures, 10th I give and bequeath to my two daughters Mary E. and Margaret C. Cowan all the table ware and other articles that they may desire at the appraised value of such articles. 11th I will and direct that Robert R. Harris be appointed my executor to carry out the bequest of this will and lastly as to all the rest, residue and remainder of my personal estate whatsoever after payment of all my Just debts, I give and bequeath to my three children, Wade M, Mary E. and Margret C Cowan to each share and share alike. In Witness Whereof I have hereunto set my hand this 28th day of March A D 1883 Sarah E. Cowan Signed and declared by the above named Sarah E. Cowan to be her last will and testament in the presence of us who at her request and in her presence have subscribed our names as witnesses thereto C. T. Hackleman R. A. Brown Proof of Will State of Missouri, Cedar County. In the matter of proving the Last Will and Testament of Sarah E. Cowan of Cedar County deceased Probate Court of Cedar County. On this 2nd day of May 1883 before me Judge of the Probate Court within and for said county personally came C. T. Hackleman and R. A. Brown who being by me duly sworn on their oaths say that they were present and saw Sarah E. Cowan sign the foregoing instrument and heard her publish and declare the same to be her last will and testament and that at the time of signing and publishing the same the said Sarah E. Cowan was of sound and disposing mind and that these deponents subscribed their names thereto as witnesses to the same in the presence and at the request of the testor and in the presence of each other C. Haden, Judge of the Probate Court of Cedar County having examined the foregoing instrument purporting to be the last will of Sarah E. Cowan deceased and signed by Sarah E. Cowan and having heard the testimony of C. T. Hackleman and R. A. Brown, subscribing witnesses thereto in relation to the execution of the same do declare and adjudge said instrument to be the last will and testament of the said Srah E. Cowan deceased late of Cedar County, Missouri, In Testimony Whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and affixed the seal of said Court at office in Stockton this 2nd day of May 1883 (Seal) R. W.
