This was Samuel's first known marriage. The authors speculate on a first marriage based on a family record of a son John born Feb 1718, but there are other possible explanations (such as that the family record incorrectly attributes Samuel's nephew John to Samuel).

    Adams: Sarah, wid., d. Oct. 26, 1767

[Although we can not rule out two possible marriages in the 1760's in Canterbury of a Sarah Adams it seems unlikely at her advanced age. In the two previous marriages she waited 3-4 years to marry a second time. That's relatively slow so she was not in a rush. This date appears to fit but should be confirmed with a second source]
