As of 10 September 2014, this memorial is inaccurate in at least two respects: (1) the actual burials of William and Sarah (Bidwell) Brainerd are unknown, but are probably somewhere on the heights in Haddam Neck, overlooking the Connecticut River; (2) the pictured memorial is a cenotaph erected by the second Cyprian Strong Brainerd sometime in the late nineteenth century and is located on the west side of the Old Rock Landing Cemetery on Haddam Neck, not in the Thirty Mile Island Burial Yard in Haddam proper, on the west side of the river.
