    "Josiah3 Brainerd (William2, Daniel1) of Haddam Neck, Middlesex Co., Conn.; … He was a constituent member of the church in Middle Haddam at its formation, Sept. 24, 1740. He was a farmer in Haddam Neck, and was engaged in the stone quarries in that place. He was appointed Ensign of the 1st Co., 4th Battalion, and afterwards Lieutenant of the 4th Co., 16th Regt., May, 1752. Lieut. Josiah served in the two preceding French and Indian Wars, and was with Gen. Wolfe at the capture of Quebec. He lived in a house which he built, 1737, on Quarry Hill, in Haddam Neck, and which was pulled down in 1883. … Lieut. Josiah Brainerd d. July 8, 1792, ae. 81 yrs."
