Samuel Walker was born around Mercersberg, Pennsylvania. He later traveled with his family to the Louisville, Kentucky area around Chenoweth Run. He married Elizabeth Reed in 1800[5] and moved first across the river to Clark County, Indiana[6] and later Shelby, Indiana[7]

Daily Evening Democrat, Columbus Friday 7 November 1879: [8]

"Washington Burns and Sarah Walker were married in Shelby County, Indiana 5 November 1829 by Samuel Drake. Mr. Burns will be 75 next January. He came from Harrison County, Kentucky in 1820 landing at Spring Hill, Decatur County wiht his father, mother, brothers and sisters, footing it all the way as their rickety vehicle broke down the 2nd day out. Mrs. Burns is in her 70th year, born in Clark Co., Indiana, whose father settled there among the Indians."
