The 1903 Alexander genealogy of the St. Johns claims he is son of Matthias III, but Jim Churchyard's research makes a stronger case that he is the son of Matthias II; see http://www.nctimes.net/~churchyj/early4ch.html. I'm going with Churchyard's logic.
