Moved from Pennsylvania to Grant Co, WI before 1850 and lived next door to daughter Affa. Bought land adjacent to son-in-law Joseph’s in Crawford Co in 1858. When Joseph and Affa died during the Civil War, Samuel and Sarah eventually assumed care of their children, even though two of their sons (Benjamin and Cyrus) submitted the paperwork for the children’s pension funds.

S. Rosencrantz, I.G., is listed as one of the original officers of Emery Lodge, of the Order of Good Templars, organized 3 Aug 1865. The lodge was disbanded in 1867. Mrs. S. Rosencrantz was part of the reformed Wauzeka #33 of International Order of Good Templars in 1870. (History of Crawford Co, WI)

Samuel and Sarah were 5th cousins once removed, through Thomas Holcomb. Joseph Holcomb's daughter married into the Slater line, which was Samuel's mother's line. Elizabeth Holcomb m. Daniel Birge, whose daughter became a Spencer.
