Samuel Jackson Robertson (The Red) was born 1792 in the newly formed state of Kentucky. Samuel was the 2nd child of thirteen children born to James Robertson and his wife Elizabeth Nicholson, near Silver Creek in Madison County. James was a veteran of the Revolutionary War and the Kentucky frontier.
On 7 March 1811, Samuel married a young Elizabeth Ann Adkisson in Madison County. Elizabeth, born 1795 in Bedford County, Virginia, was the daughter of Ellis Adkisson and his wife Nancy Prather. To Samuel and Elizabeth's union were 6 Children: James 1812, Elizabeth 1815, Elias 1816, Martha 1819, Pleasant 1820, Susan 1822 and all from Breckinridge County.
