 In the 1870 census for Topeka, ward 3, Shawnee Co., Kansas, Sam'l Marshall is 33 born Illinois, contractor; with Margaret 32 b. Illinois; [Samuel's children by previous marriage?] Nora 9 b. Kansas, (Emma?) 7 KS, and (Edgell?) 5 (Wisconsin?).  Hiram Grabendike [Margaret's brother] is 24 from Illinois, teamster, with [daughter] May 1 born Kansas in May. {p. 213}
 In the 1880 census for Osage, Osage Co., Kansas, Samuel Marshall is a general contractor, age 42 from Ohio (parents Ohio).  Wife Margaret is 42, born Pennsylvania, (parents Pennsylvania).  Their children are Robert, 14; Hattie, 8; and Willie, 1 -- all born Kansas. Price Meller, laborer, age 18 from Ohio, is also living there. {p.138a}
 In the 1895 Kansas state census for Osage, Osage Co., Kansas, there are listings for Samuel Marshall 56 Ohio, Margaret 57 Pennsylvania, Hattie 22 Kansas, and William 16 Kansas.

 In the 1910 census for Osage, Samuel is 72 'mason - brick stone', and Margaret A., 72, 2 of 3 children living; daughter Harriet B. is 38, KS, single, 'teacher - music'.  Their son may be the William L. Marshall in Wakefield, Clay Co., Kansas, with family.
