Will Transcript

In the name of God Amen! This 4th day of January 1801, I Samuel Luckey of Rowan County and State of North Carolina being sick and weak in body, but in good sound memory thanks be to God, and calling to remembrance the uncertain estate of this my transitory life and that all flesh must yield to death when it shall please God to call. I do make, constitute, ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following, revoking and annulling by these presents all and every testament and will heretofore by me made and declared either by word or writing, and this is to be taken only for my last will and testament and no other. First I give my soul to God and my body to the earth to be decently buried, at the discretion of my executors. As to my worldly estate wherewith it had pleased God to bless me in this life, I dispose of in following manner and form. I will that all my debts to be paid after my decease at a convenient time by my executor hereafter named.
Item, I give and bequeth unto my son JOHN LUCKEY out of my estate besides what I have already given him the sum of ten pounds and no more to him and his heirs and assigns forever.
Item, I give and bequeth to my son SAMUEL LUCKEY all my land lying on the west side of Hunting Creek including my improvements whereon I now live and ten pounds currency besides what I have already given him and no more to him his heirs and assigns forever.
Item, I will that all my moveable property that is to say horses, cows, hogs, household furniture and my two negroes named Steve and Dinah shall be put to sale and the money equally divided between my three daughters ELEANOR McGUIRE and ANN LUCKEY and MARY LUCKEY, only out of such money arising from such property.
I give to my grand daughter ANN RONSHAW when she comes to the age of sixteen years the sum of five pounds to them their heirs and assigns forever.
And lastly I do nominate and appoint my son SAMUEL LUCKEY and my son in law JAMES McGUIRE executor of this my last will and testament.

    Samuel Luckey, Sr. was born about 1733 in Martic Township, Lancaster County,
    Pennsylvania and died about 1802 in Rowan County, North Carolina. He married
    Mary (unknown maiden name) and had five children, Samuel Luckey, Jr., John
    Luckey, Eleanor Luckey (married James McGuire), Anne Luckey, and Mary Ann
    Luckey (married William Renshaw). On November 4, 1777, Samuel Luckey, Sr.
    pledged his oath of fidelity to the State of North Carolina. On June 12,
    1778, the state of North Carolina granted him 640 acres of land on both sides
    of Hunting Creek adjoining James McGuire, Robert Bell, Richard Neely, and John
    Van Eaton lands.
