    Samuel3 b. July 27, 1673 ; m. Mercy Holmes [wid. of John Holmes (John Holmes m. Mercy Bell, Jan. 15,1701-2; John, son of John and Mercy Holmes, b. May 21, 1703; John Holmes d. July 6, 1703. [Stamford Records.]) and dau. of Capt. Jonathan Bell], July 13, 1704; lived in Stamford ; d. Dec. 9, 1711. Wid. Mercy m. Peter Ferris, June 15, 1716. He is called Sam. Hayt Jr. on the list of 1701-2. A Sam. Hait Jr. is also mentioned on the S. rec. in 1697. His ear-mark was entered at S., Dec, 1702. March 4,1705-6, his father gave him the "most part of his portion," including 7 acres upon Noroton Hill, butting to the road north, with the house, buildings, and fences thereon, meadow in "Longmedows," also in close on east side of Noroton River, also in "Shaw Swamp," also at "Westcuss." Nov. 5, 1708, he deeded to his father land east of Noroton River, and received from his father, same date, land in the horse-pasture, near "Westcots." He is usually called, on the S. land records, "son of Sam. Hait Sen.," or "son of Dea. Hait," and sometimes a "carpenter," or "Sam. Jr." He bought three other lots of land in the horse-pasture in 1710 and '11, and land in Shiphan neck, Nov. 28, 1711, but a few days before his death. Invent. est. taken March 26, 1712 ; presented by Wid. Mercy, June 3, 1713; amt. £274, including house, barn, and lot, land at Westcot's, in horse-pasture, close, Shiphan, meadow in the field and in the swamp, etc.
